Research Experience:
My research work is mostly focused on optimization of biomethane production from a variety of non-edible biomass types. Anaerobic digestion has several environmental advantages however, in many cases it is not economically feasible, limiting its widespread application. Improving biomethane yield can help increasing a biogas plant economy. Several approaches are in hand for this purpose. Our strategies currently under investigation for such purpose include chemical pretreatments, and additives (trace elements and nanoparticles).
We got interesting improvement in biomethane yield by adding a waste from water treatment plant. The next step is to do experiments in continuous mode and then be able to assess its economic aspects.
Considering the situation of Iran, biogas production from dairy and poultry manures seems to be the most promising option source of organic waste. We are trying to build the first large scale pilot plant in a dairy farm if we could get fund. This will allow further research and also provides a platform for extension of biogas technology in Iran.
Another field of research for me is biomass stoves. Micro-gasifier stoves are those of interesting option for remote and poor regions where access to natural gas or LPG is difficult. We designed our own top lid updraft stove which has satisfactory operation.
